L’écrivain homosexuel américain aborde des sujets aussi variés que son enfance violente, sa vie de prostitué sans abri, et l’attitude du gouvernement envers les minorités. Il explore des expériences intimes douloureuses, dénonce l’indifférence, et appelle à plus de compassion pour les groupes sociaux stigmatisés. As the gay American writer tackles his violent childhood, his life as a homeless hustler and the government’s attitude towards minorities, he explores painful intimate experiences, denounces indifference, and calls for more compassion towards stigmatized social groups. Experimenting with language, syntax and form, he challenges the illusion of a unified American society, instead revealing the inequality and violence that characterize the social and political landscape. The essays thus lift the veil on the unacceptable, convey a sense of urgency and point to the inadequacies of the American society and government.This contribution explores how David Wojnarowicz’ writings question the notion of value, both on a human and literary level. It examines how his politically orientated yet deeply intimate writings demand that individuals be revalued. One cannot deny the power and value of the beautiful, tortured, scathing testimony, thanks to which the author struggles against invisibility and insignificance.
